eTTL, Additional information:
Conversion module in the housing allows current DS-series Substrobes to give eTTL flash control using information provided by the camera (for compatible serial numbers see below). The conversion module takes its power from the substrobe via 5-wire sync cord 4103.51 (single strobe) or 4103.52 (dual strobe).

On turning on the Substrobe, the conversion circuit powers up in its default TTL mode.

Ikelite underwater housing EOS 300D - TTL detail

Use of the arrow buttons allows flash exposure compensation (FEC) of ±2EV in ½EV increments. Red LEDs indicate the FEC setting. No red LEDs are lit when the compensation is zero,

Pressing both arrow buttons together for 1 second toggles the system into manual flash mode. Initial setting is full power (F). The arrow buttons allow 8 manual settings in ½EV increments.

SubStrobe Compatibility

Ikelite DS-series substrobe production as of September 2004 has been updated to provide full compatibility with the eTTL conversion circuitry. DS Substrobes produced before Sept 2004 require modification involving removal of the audible ready signal and disabling of Nikonos (film camera) TTL error signals in order to maintain pre-flash exposure accuracy for photographs taken at intervals of less than 5 seconds.
DS-50 substrobes with serial number below 63850 (GTO type) cannot be updated cost effectively to operate correctly with the eTTL system. DS-50 Substrobes with serial numbers between 63850 and 69999 work correctly but require update for optimum exposure accuracy in rapid firing situations. Full compatibility is provided from serial no. 70000 onwards.
DS-125 Substrobes with serial number below 2500 (GTO type) must be updated to work with the eTTL converter. DS-125 Substrobes with serial numbers between 2500 and 4999 work correctly but require update for optimum exposure accuracy in rapid firing situations. Full compatibility is provided from serial no. 5000 onwards.
